Taking up a martial art at 32

Sorry folks, don't post here very often so this kind of thread may be frowned upon, but just looking for a few suggestions...I'm 32 years old and looking to take up a martial art. I have no prior experience, save for basic self-defence I learned for work purposes, and a brief spell at Krav Maga.
To be clear, I'm not looking for any shortcuts or quick fixes. However, I'm a shift worker and don't have a consistent schedule. I'm under no illusions that, given my age, I'll ever reach a level of proficiency that could be achieved by starting young. At the same time though, I would like to reach some level of proficiency. My fitness level isn't great, but I'm willing to put the work in.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated folks!!

Which do you reckon you'd enjoy most, striking (punching, kicking etc) or grappleing (throws, chokes, joint locks etc)?

Also, where abouts are you based?

Oh and 32 is a spring chicken for martial arts btw, you don't get your full mature strength untill your 30 or so ;)

    Thanks for the reply Peetrik,

I'm based in the Northside of Dublin.
I'd be more into the striking aspect, I'll be honest...my co-ordination isn't great, so I think I tend to get confused by joint locks, etc.

Ideally you'll prob be looking for a place that does lunch time and evening classes (if tat suits ur shifts) check out Sbg city centre

MMA or (mixed martial arts) is good as it includes everything from strikes to grappling. Its good for the fitness and there's no belts in it.

No problem, well if you like striking I'd advise Muay Thai. Full time dedicated clubs in north Dublin are

Bridgestone Muay Thai - City center (Dublin 7)
    Dublin Thai - Kilbarrack

    Most important factors are...
Quality of club (I'd happily vouch for the quality of either of those clubs)
You enjoy it so you keep going
Its close enough that you'll actually go

    Hope that helps
Best of luck with your training

I am 29 myself and have just started sanshou kickboxing and sambo wrestling. I also work shift, it is a nightmare trying to keep up with training.
Could you pm me if you found anything that suits shift work in Dublin?

I live in cavan, train in meath and work in dublin. Would love to train when I am working in Dublin.

    Thanks.

A word to the wise A lesson I learned from my short stint at training so far, turn up early to class to stretch. The hamstrings/groin that were made out magic and deep heat when you were 17 are long gone!!!

I have learned the hard way.
