Doing it on your own vs. Recording Studio

    Hello all,

    I am currently looking into booking a recording studio to record an EP in an acoustic-folk style. Been looking back through threads for the past while and I cant seem to find a "middle ground" recording studio that is affordable enough but also has an *experienced*, knows their stuff kind of an engineer....

    I know a lot of artists are turning to home recording these days, I have a basic set up for recording demos-now starting to wonder if maybe I should just record myself and then have it mixed and mastered professionally?

    Would love to hear if people have heard good quality, radio ready recordings that were recorded "at home" or do you think you need studio equipment for this kind of sound. If any engineers/ recording studios in the Dublin area who have experience with singer-songwriter style recording want to get in touch with your rates and equipment would also like to hear from you..

    Thanks in advance ;)

    My set up:

    DAW= steinberg ci1

    microphone= Audio Technica AT4033

    software: Audacity or Sequel LE

    and Dell laptop

    Post some samples of the material, will be easier for people to make recommendations then...

    You could try the James and Eoin in The Hive.

    They did the Owensie album http://owensie.bandcamp.com/

    James was the one who engineered it. He is in US touring at moment, but is back soon.

    About 40 mins in you will see the little studio. Nothing crazy, simple setup.

    Lads are well aware of peoples situation with cash. Last time we were they it was €130 a day.

    Thanks for that Peter05...looked them up, that is the kind of set up I would be looking for- just something simple to get down an acoustic recording, but with a good quality engineer- Thanks!

    Give Albert in Sonic Studios a shout. He's been at it for years. Rates are good, the studio is great and the parking's free!
