    Hi,

I have a 99 VW Golf. It didn't pass the NCT due to emmissions. It is probably going to cost more to get the problem fixed than the car is worth so i'm considering scrapping it. How much do you think i'd get for a full golf's scrap metal?

    Kind regards
    Niamh

I'd say it being a golf it would be worth your while putting it up on done deal for €500 or so.

Scrap dealers are giving out around €130 per tonne.

Take off any easy bits & pieces (mirrors, lights etc) and sell them on ebay.

If you've got more than 3 months tax left on the car, you can claim this back after scrapping it.

Or maybe try some octane booster and see if it will pass?

Put in Dipetane. Go to a motor factors, ask for it, it'll cost you a tenner. Do what it says on the tin. And wave good bye to your emissions problem.

This post is proof that you should not believe everything you read on the internet.

Diptane is not all that effective in a petrol engined car for starters. Even when it does 'what it says on the tin' it will only bring down the emissions if you're only a small bit over the limits, plus driving the crap out of it on the way to the test centre.

OP, what are the emissions like? Post up the full figures and it may be the case that the car is worth saving!

Dipetane is only a fuel system cleaner, it does not fix any components that may be causing emission issues such as air leaks, exhaust leaks, oil burning, lambda/cat faults etc.

@OP, have you had the cause of your emissions issue diagnosed? Its a bit daft to scrap a car on the assumption that it will be expensive to fix without knowing for sure first, no?

Thats what cataclean does, not dipetane

What sort of a knob are you. I failed my nct on emissons, i used dipetane - went from 4.6 down to 1.3 and passed the test. The OP never mentioned anything else - only emissions.

    Was it smoke test, then?

OP didn't say if his Golf is petrol, or diesel.
