Thoughts on professionally drawn up CV's

    Hello all, I am in the process of looking for a new job. I am lucky enough to be in employment at the moment, so I am willing to take my time to find a job I am really happy with. I have worked in my current job for nearly 6 years, so it has been quite a while since I have had to draw up my CV. I am just wondering what people’s thoughts are on getting my CV professionally done? I have never done this before, as the job market was obviously a lot easier when I was last looking for work. I am just wondering if a really good CV and cover letter would help me stand out from the crowd.

    Any tips on a good company who do this? And how much could I expect to pay? I am in Cork btw.

    A really good CV and cover letter will definitely help you stand out from the crowd.

    I don't know if you need to get either professionally done though, but if you are worried and can afford it I think it is probably worth the EUR 30 investment (or whatever). Same for interview coaching.

    You CV is a living document: you should be updating the master copy whenever you do a training course, take on a new type of work etc. Then when you send it for a job, you should be choosing which bits from the master copy should go into the targeted one.

    Paying to get it professionally laid out should be fairly cheap (lots of unemployed graphic designers around).

    Just make sure that it's done so you can easily leave out or shorten particular bits.
