Anybody got any ideas how many miles there is in a 2.0 diesel Trajet before it you get major trouble?
Anybody have any experience of the trajet, positive/negative?
    Cheers

Also if anyone has any opinion about the Opel Zafira Club 1.9 Diesel that would be great!

This is like asking how long a piece of string is. Too many variables, depends how it was driven and maintained.

I was wondering do they start getting trouble around the 150k mile mark, even if it is only a 2005 model. Looks like a clean enough motor though

There is no fixed mileage that any car or engine starts to give trouble. As said, its depends entirely on how it was used and maintained.

With regards to the Hyundai 2.0 diesel engine, I've seen them do big miles as taxi's before...300k plus.

My Hyundai friends tell me stay away from them.

i've seen a lot of them being bought cheap, burning oil, turbos gone etc.

Does this go for all the trajets, even diesel models?

Only the diesel ones have turbo's;)

Aside from engine reliability, trajets are generally very heavy on tyres, brakes and suspension parts.

Think he was refering to the stay away part.

The petrols aren't too bad if they're minded. They're known for oil pumps etc.

    Do you do big mileage?

There's great space in them, but as ND said they're heavy on susp. parts, which don't come cheap.

Have to say Limerick man I have to disagree with you.I worked for Hyundai for over six years. As Nissan Doc says Ive seen them do well over 300k as taxis with no bother.

Ive never ever seen a turbo go in one.Engines quite reliable as are suspension parts.

They only thing Id fault them on is the gearbox in the diesel.

They fall to bits. The synchros go in them and although Hyundai released a so called fix a while back theyre still giving the same trouble.

Its an expensive fix at around 500-800 euros and even then it wont last.

Brake wear is bad aswell getting 15-20k from a set of pads.
Non Genuine pads and discs last a lot lot longer-Ive used mintex pads and discs on them and gotten over 50k.

If I was buying a Trajet tomorrow Id either buy a 2.0 petrol with the belt done recently or a 2.0 diesel auto which will go forever.

i deal with cars day in day out, and i've been told stay clear of the Crdi. Last week i spotted two 06 Trajets lying idle as they were burning serious oil.

But everyone has their stories :)

Would do decent milage alright, need a 7 seater but cant go for something new(who can:rolleyes:)
So no great thumbs up for the trajet............

Thoughts on the Opel Zafira Club?????
    It's a 1.9 diesel, has 169k miles and is 2007

    Cheers for the input;)

Im still in the trade myself and I suppose some places do see different problems than another garage. But honestly never ever saw a turbo go in one.
That Crdi was always fairly decent and reliable.

Then again Im biased towards Hyundais ;)

Ask ROR about the beige slacks ie Hyundai Sonatas.

i'll have to retract my turbo statement, i'm rethinking it and it was purely oil burning that i've seen.

My cousin had a petrol one that blew up. He had spent alot on susp. components in the his ownership, my mechanic also told me he's done alot of work on them susp. wise. My cousin wanted another one as he loved the space, so i did a bit of ringing and two Hyundai lads, and a few more in the trade said to steer clear of the diesel. i got him a nice 04 facelift (Much fresher car inside and out), petrol with a FSH. Hasn't had a problem yet (7 months in)

Geabox issues i've heard of also, in relation to diesels. i was actually asked to source one about three weeks ago.

Is there any thing similar in that price range 4/5k that you would go for quicker than the Trajet then?

Do you need the space of one?

Need the space sadly:( but only to ferry everyone together for certain journeys, have a 1.2 for a runaround and general work horse

Have a look at Toyota Previa's, tonnes of space, lots of spec(especially the imports, called the Toyota Estima) and very reliable.

    Thanks for that!
You reckon a Previa down in the years is better than a Trajet?

IMO, if your after a reliable family wagon then years are irrelevant, interior space, reliability and service history/condition are the main criteria I would think.

    Hi Folks,
    Here is my story.
I got a 2002 Crdi Trajet diesel 110k on 1/5/12 . Two weeks after buying it, blue smoke started coming out of exhaust and oil started dropping. Took it back to car salesmans mechanic who said I needed new engine. Meanwhile the car dealer did a runner to the UK, now I have a €3,500 garden ornament!!!
I got a quote for €3000 to recondition the engine from a different mechanic. I also have a gearbox that is very difficult to go from 3rd to 4th !!
I need a proper 7 seater as I have a special needs son prone to temper tantrums so I need a barrier between me and him. (He is over 6 feet tall and 14 stone weight).

My question is. Should I put the money into the Trajet or go back into the market for a 7 seater. I am due some money in the next month or two so I could have up to 6k to spend???
I am sick of the whole thing, but I need to buy the 7 seater for my son.
I would really appreciate any advice.

If the engine has major issues and the gearbox is giving trouble then clearly the car hasn't been looked after at all during its life so even after fixing those issues, you could still end up with a money pit.

My advice on a very reliable and extremely spacious MPV above still stands.

Thanks a million Nissan Doctor. I will follow your advice and buy an Estima / Previa when I get some money together. There is Just 1 question. On Carzone.ie some Estima engines are described as "Hybrid"
Do you know what this means? As you may have guessed I am not proficient in car knowledge !!!
    Thanks once again.
