A neighbour of mine (single mother, 2 children) was recently reported to Child Social Services because she had been drinking. I had an issue with this lady and her son some years ago but we dealt with it amicably through the local authorities. We have had no issues since and her son has grown up to be a very nice child and has become a good friend to my own children. Yesterday my son came home from school saying that another child at school said to him that I had rang Child Social Services complaining about this lady. This is totally untrue and is causing my wife huge distress. She spoke to the lady yesterday evening and sorted it out with her, but I am furious that someone can say this about me and get away scot-free. The lady in question will not tell us who said this to her. I think neighbours are trying to cause problems for us for some reason. What can I / should I do about people who sneakily ring Social Services, blame someone else and then hide behind the confidentiality process? Anyone been in this type of situation before?

It's a difficult one, not least because the person who called the Social Services was not necessarily doing something "wrong".

I don't know how you can infer that the person who called S Services identified you?

ring social welfare and ask them to send her a letter confirming that it was NOT you that informed them. as its causing your family undue stress.

they still wont tell her or you who DID tell them but they could at least tell her that YOU didn't tell them

Yeah, unfortunately it may be just someone causing trouble for us. Would like to know who this is though as we have no enemies (just a few begrudgers!). ;) Will ring Social Services and ask them to send the lady a letter, letting her know it was not me. Thanks for your help! Will let you know how I get on with SS.

Just off the phone with the Social Services. They won't go into any detail but said it was someone who called into their office and made an anonymous complaint. The girl on the phone was not there so didn't know if it was male or female. Some nasty bastards are just tring to blame me. If I find out who they are they made need protection themselves! It's just not right that someone can do this and then just hide or blame someone else. At least when I had an issue I dealt with it openly! I hate sneaky f**kers!!!
