Good afternoon,My daughter has taken her first two lessons,so I rang up my insurance company to get her put on the car insurance and they don't do learner drivers:(
Can anybody recommend an insurance co that does insure learner drivers please?
Unfortunately I will now probably have to change insurers otherwise she won't get her practice inbetween lessons!

    Thanks
    SM

    Hi

I would try Liberty, 123.ie, aviva and axa in that order. You down as the first driver and your daughter as a named driver.

There are also brokers such as Britton or first ireland that would be worth a go.

Most insurers will insure learner drivers so you won't have a problem getting a quote.

let us know how you get on.

    Matt

Always found Insure.ie to be very good. Always tell the insurance company your on with that you got a cheaper quote of €20 - €25 from they quote they gave you from another insurance company drop in a name helps like 123.ie or axis or insure.ie. They always try to match it. Play them off each other.

    Hi,
It's a nightmare isn't it? I'm a 17 year old girl on my provisional and I bought a car on monday. I got a quote for €2,870 for me as named driver and my mam as the additional driver. You're better off to go on to aviva.ie, so now with my mam as named driver and me as the additional driver it's €847. Big difference! They don't care how many lessons you have done cause we told them i had my 12 lessons done and was waiting for a date for my test.
    Hope that helped!

    and
    clo4cb.
Thank you very much for your replies!
Initially my insurer said they wouldnt put the daughter on but she gave me the number of the Irish Insurance Federation and said they might be able to tell me who would.
The very nice man who I rang in the IIF told me that if I have my insurance with them that they are OBLIGED to add a learner on.
So,rang them back and told the nice lady with my insurance company this. Was told that they have to have experience before they will add them:confused:
The only way to get experience is to be able to drive and practice!
Anyway she said she would get onto the Underwriter and get back to me.
    Lo and behold,
the nice lady rang back and said they would add her but only 3rd party fire and theft.Cost 265 euro till my renewal(3 months time).
The 20 year old daughter is happy and she will be down as having driving experience and we wont have to change insurers at present.
It might not be fully comp but I challenged their rule and got something!

Now that's a surprise! That sort of money for adding a 20 year old learner is peanuts!

Just goes to show you what can happen if you push things!

Will be interesting to see what your renewal is like. Shop around come renewal time cuse if that was for the year, your premium will have gone up by a grand!

    matt70iu,
was happy enough with that. The price is for 4 months, till renewal in middle of september.
It works out roughly as roughly 800 per year for her but as you say will wait till renewal and see what the quote is from them then.If its much higher will shop around!

My advice is definately shop around. There is a good few companys giving instant quotes on the net.
I'm 30 , car is a 1.4 golf on TPF&T. Just checking for me i can basically add a person with a full license and pay 20 less, add another , pay the original amt.
If i add a L driver it only costs a couple hundred more.
    800 is dear.

I just got insurance for my 19 year old daughter as named driver on my car for 550 euro through zurich. This included a full bonus protection and was fully comp. I would definitely shop around and be sure to check if your bonus is protected as I found some of the online quotes didn't include this. Good luck!

9935452 and saleda, thanks for the replies!
Yes, I'll shop around in September when renewal comes.
I just didn't want the hassle of moving insurers 3/4 of the way through the year and the daughter was happy enough anyway with that, she's paying!
I normally shop around when renewal comes for the best quote anyway.

    Thanks!

Is your policy fully comp? and she is a named driver on that same policy but restricted to TPFT? Or did they downgrade the whole policy to TPFT? I didn't think that was possible!! You learn something new every day!!
