Buying netbook: Amd C50 vs e450 (worth 60€ extra?)

Hi there i'm looking to buy my first netbook & i've been looking up all the different options on various sites. I'd appreciate a little advice from those with more expertise than me before i make the leap.

It will be my primary computer but I use my ps3 for games & movies, so i dont need it to be too powerful. Still i would like to watch hdmi stuff occasionally & be able to hook it to the telly. Mainly i will be doing college work, downloading/reading pdf's on adobe and writing on a word processor; doing general websurfing/youtube; also i would like to be able to upload photos & video clips from a dslr and mess around with them in movie maker & free photo editing software (this is just casual stuff, if i find i get into it then I'll buy something more powerful at a later date to handle that).

I was going to get a small 10.1" for under 300 but have decided to stretch out to an 11.6 or a 12.1 as it will be my main unit. Ideally I'd like to get one for 360€ish but i'm comparing two that go up to 420€, and would like to know if the extra 60€ would be worth it in terms of browsing speed & load times etc.

    Argos Asus 11.6" 1225B, 4gb, 320hdd, Amd C50, 8hr battery, win7 - 360€

    Komplett Samsung 11.6" NP305 U1A AO3NL, 4gb, 500hdd, AMD E450, 1.2kg, win7 - 420€

    Komplett HP pavillion DM1 4100ED 11.6", 4gb, 500hdd, AMD E450, 1.6kg, win7 & office starter - 418€

The latter two are quite similar as you can see, they have more disc space and E450 processors. Their spec also lists the hdmi port, card reader & bluetooth whereas the argos site is confusing on those issues (in the Q&A section on the .co.uk version of the site some customers say their models did arrive with some of the above whereas the expert says no they're not included)... so are they worth the extra 60€, or even flip the question could the argos one suit me just as well and i be better to keep the few bob for other things. Bear in mind that i probably will go a bit mental if boot up and loading programs/websites takes completely excessive amounts of time. :D

On the choice between the HP & the Samsung; the samsung lists as 1.2kg vs 1.6kg in the HP and slightly larger dimensions. This appeals to me as i would be bringing it out to libraries and that quite a bit & i've had nightmares dragging my old bricks around. The trade off is that the HP comes with office starter... i take it it wont be too difficult to find a freeware word processor that i can load up documents saved on memory keys, or am i making assumptions there?

Also i have another question: I read a review on the samsung and it mentioned as a fault that it doesn't have wireless 802.11. In the spec of both the Samsung and the HP it lists as "wireless -N". What exactly does this mean for me?, I will be picking up the internet from the wireless router downstairs and also i'd like it if it could link to the ps3 wirelessly. Forgive me if that's a stupid question.

so to review: *step up in processor & extra hdd space - is it worth the 60€
*Samsung vs HP : 400g weight saving vs office starter - what do you think & can i sort the office issue easy enough without paying (ps i realise what starter means, that its not the proper thing at all, but at least i'll be able to get stuck into my documents straight away once i unbox)
& *does lack of wireless 802.11 matter & what does it mean in the practical sense to the layman

All of your input would be greatly appreciated, also feel free to point me to where i can find a better machine for half the price if you know of such a treasure... thanks in advance.

Don't let office starter sway you either way. You could download open office for free, does the same job (though I don't use it myself, I just don't like the way it looks :L)

I would definitely go for the Samsung there, it's definitely worth the €60 for the processor, you would see a pretty big difference in speed over the first one.

I agree with Finality here, I have the Asus you linked to. Its a decent machine, it'll do what you want no problem, but the Samsung is definitely faster and for an extra 60 euro, I don't think you'd regret it. By the way, I got mine from Argos, it does have HDMI and 2 USB 3.0 ports, and 1 USB 2.0 port, and a card reader and VGA port.

The Samsung is cheaper, lighter, smaller, has twice the RAM, a larger hdd and a better webcam. Its cpu is roughly the same, if not slightly better.

The Asus looks to have better battery life, I wouldn't choose it over the Samsung on that alone tbh.

Definitely get the e450 over the c50 or the atom.

Thanks a mil for the help guys, i've pulled the trigger on the samsung and i'm pretty happy with that. I looked at some more reviews and there were plusses and minuses to all the options. I noticed that about the low battery store for the samsung but i'm not put off too much as i'm used to looking for a plug socket as it is and i'm willing to trade it off for the low weight. Delighted to find out it has a non glossy screen aswell and the long warranty makes me feel secure about it all.

Be on the look out for the postie now :)
