A full lap of the outer ring of central park is just over 10k
I was there a few years ago, here is my garmin link: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/44477036 (there is an extra half mile or so of me running down from/back to my hotel)
It's a hilly enough loop. Lovely smooth tarmac roads, they are open to traffic but there is a dedicated runners lane on the inside all the way around. You'll meet hundred of other runners doing a loop. Great place to run.

Yep I ran there last year. Its a great way to see the park. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/99998267

Its huge so theres loads of different paths and trails to take. On the main road through the park theres a lane at the side for runners and cyclists. There were plenty of other runners out and about when I was there so you'll have lots of company!

    Enjoy!

I was in NYC at Easter and ran in the Scotland 10K, organised by www.nyrr.org. Check their site for an event.

It was a great event and an even better way to experience Central Park. Even if there's no event when you're there, the map from the Scotland 10K is a good route to take.
