Is the dog kenneled on concrete or grass?
My run is concreted keeps the pads somewhat hard and their nails short. Far too many lads do not do enough road work with their gundogs. You should give him plenty of road work for the summer and his pads will soon become hard. It is all I am doing now with my bitch. No hunting as it is the nesting season so she is walked on a lead a couple of miles each evening and allowed a swim in the river couple of times a week. Roadwork does wonders strengtening the leg muscles as well. Keeps the dogs in tip top condition for the summer. If you have quite roads about you you could get your bike out either keep yourself in shape as well!:p
