    Hi All,

Out for a Society Outing here this Weekend. Have a vague recollection of playing there a few years ago, but I know that a fair amount of money was put into the course since then.

Any tips, etc... for the best way to get around the place and hopefully pick up a prize? :)

    Course was remodelled in the last few years. Nice track. Not a member but have played it many times. Off the top of my head;

1st; Short par-4 though anything right is in trees or OB. Narrow enough fairway with bunkers left. Good straight drive leaves a wedge or less in though on the first hole a rescue and a 7 iron is probably best.

2nd; Par 4, trouble left, bunkers right but wide enough fairway. Drive and an eight/seven iron should get you home.

3rd; Par-3. About an 8 iron, water on the left and short. Handy enough hole.

4th; Long par-4. Don't be fooled into cutting too much of the trees off on the right. Anything right of them is in trouble and there's also rough to carry beyond them.

5th; Good par-5. Birdie chance. Decent drive, staying tight to the bunker on the left, leaves a potential long approach to the green. Huge dip in front of green. Water front and left. This pushes you right and there is a big tree on the crest of the dip to catch you. Otherwise, it's driver, seven iron, wedge.

6th; Nice par-4. Keep between trees, on right, and bunker, on left. Leaves you a wedge into the green. Water to front and right of green.

7th; Par-3 over a gorge. Straightforward seven or six iron.

8th; Par-4. Again, you can cut a bit of the corner off on the right if you're a big hitter. Otherwise, hit the middle of the fairway and you have a long iron into the green.

9th; Short Par-4. Drive and a wedge at most. Big hitters can get close or on.

10th; Par-5. Trees left and right off the tee and bunkers on either side of the fairway for your next two shots. Keep it straight and it's a handy par.

11th; Par-3, about a six or seven iron. Green is wider than long with bunkers at the front and back. Distance control essential here.

12th; Dog leg Par-4. Trees left are trouble. Go too far right and you're blocked out also by a big tree (if I remember right). A good drive will be down the left of the fairway, leaving a long iron/rescue/3 wood into the green. Slight dip in front of the green and bunker left.

13th; Excellent Par-5. Long drive up the centre possibly leaves a shot to the green though I aint a long hitter so never managed it. For the majority it's a drive, maybe a five iron to the right of the fairway, keeping in mind the water on the left. Leaves you a wedge or so into a big green.

14th; Long par-3. Maybe a four iron or rescue. Water right of green.

15th; Great par-4. Off the drive there's trees left and a bunker right. If you can keep it straight you have a mid iron over a huge new pond to the green. Err on the long side because there's no danger over the back.

16th; Short par-5. All danger visible from the tee. Decent drive and 3 wood, depending on the wind, could get you on in 2. Bunker short right of green.

17th; Reachable par-4. Hit it a couple of times with wind behind. Bunkers everywhere though so unless you're chasing a score the best play is a five/six iron up the middle and a wedge. Distinctly two tiered green.

18th; Great closing hole. OB all the way down the right which scares the bejaysus out of you if you're sitting on a nice score. Carry of about 160/170 over a ditch. Most lads pull it left for fear of the OB. You could get lucky and avoid the trees if you do this. Second shot is a wedge but plays like a nine as it's all uphill.

Hope that helps. It's a good course to score well on.

    That's excellent,more than I'd have expected.

Will have your post open when I'm out there for reference.

Any opinion on the pace/standard of the greens?

No probs. Greens are good and roll true and fair but generally fairly slow, when I've played anyway. They're not particulaly big or small in size and on a difficulty scale I'd say they're about five out of 10 - so not too difficult!
