tried looking for another thread about this here, but couldn't find one so I thought I'd start one.

It's a new show from Shameless creator Paul Abbott, and it stars Chloe Sevigny as Mia, an Irish contract killer, who is also transgender and discovers that she has an 11 year old son. Right from the get go there was some controversy with the show, as they wanted to cast a trans actress in the role, had auditions (and I even know one girl who auditioned) but cast Sevigny instead, and as well as that there's always a massive amount of skepticism because trans people have often been portrayed extremely badly in the media. I've seen quite a few debates about whether or not it's ok for a non-trans person to play a trans person, and although I would like to see more trans people in the media in general (after all, Harmony Santana did extremely well in Gun Hill Road), I've no issue with someone who isn't trans in a role like this. In fact, I love Chloe Sevigny ever since I saw her in Boys Don't Cry and American Psycho, I think she's brilliant :D

so I've watch the first episode, and there are annoyances with it. Mia's supposed to be Irish and Chloe's accent is a bit stereotypical, not awful, but that fake, what people think an Irish accent sounds like kinda thing. I know that kind of accent is like nails on a chalkboard for some, makes them grind their teeth or rant about how Irish people don't sound like that! well, if you're one of those people, hold that annoyance in mind.

there's a line of dialogue in that's so utterly cringeworthy and awful that it nearly ruined the entire show for me, and that's when Mia utters "I'm a woman trapped in a man's body"... nobody says that! it's a phrase that's most often used to mock transgender people, it almost breaks the character for me. to understand my frustration, try imagine a TV show or a movie that has a contemporary Irish character who says things like "oh bejaysis and begorrah!" or "top 'o the mornin' to ya!" or something equally awful. hopefully that will get across my frustration with that line. I've got other gripes too, but I won't spoil anything. apart from that, it is nice to a trans character that doesn't fall into many of the other tropes and cliches

the story isn't anything amazing so far, there's the whole 'trans woman finds out she has a kid' bit that was done in the awful movie Transamerica before, but there's enough things going on that I want to see how the plot grows. it kinda drags a bit, but the actors are really good and keep it interesting. I'll be looking forward to the next episode

    anyone else here seen this?

Have started watching this and must admit I'm hooked. Yes her accent is very annoying and some of the dialogue is weak at times.

In saying that I'm going to give it the benefit if the doubt and persist with it for another few episodes. I cant see it garnering too much interest but I think there are a few twists to come and whatever else about it it is quite a raw production.

Not a bad show in fairness, did a bit of background on it, Mia grew up in the Irish travelling community apparently, whether or not we will hear about that in the series I don't know, it's interesting though.

On another note Chloe sevigny's Irish accent is just appalling, she sounds like she based her accent on delores keanes version of caladonia.

LOL she's supposed to be Irish? I just assumed she had some random weird accent! Great show though. Really enjoying it.

I watched it to see if any of the characters would cheer up, and none did unfortunately.

People who think they're depressed should watch this, because they'll probably realise that they're not depressed at all, compared to all of the characters in this series.

    http://www.digitalspy.ie/tv/news/a403924/hit--miss-wont-return-for-second-series-confirms-sky-atlantic.html

Chloë Sevigny's Hit & Miss will not return for a second series, it has been confirmed.

The Sky Atlantic thriller - created by Paul Abbott - starred Oscar-nominated actress Sevigny as a transsexual contract killer.

In a message on the channel's official Twitter feed, Sky Atlantic stated: "Hit & Miss was always intended as a mini-series, and as such, there are no plans for it to return."

Back in July, Sky Atlantic told Digital Spy that a decision was yet to be made on the future of Hit & Miss but the broadcaster noted that the first six-part series had been "critically-acclaimed, and viewers have really taken to it".

However, Chloë Sevigny previously hinted that the series might not return, revealing that she was signed only for a single run.

"The other actors were all optioned for another season," she explained. "I was the only one who wasn't, oddly. I guess they knew they wouldn't be able to get me if I had to sign on for several seasons."

She added: "I'd want to see what they would do with the story [in season two], where the characters would go. I really enjoyed playing the character."

Just finished watching it and really didn't enjoy it but stuck with it for the 6 episodes. I felt the story was weak and meandering and Chloë Sevigny's character was poorly written and ill conceived. The best thing about it were the kids and teen actors who really shone.
