The flooring on the first floor of our house has warped very badly - I think the only solution is to take them up and put down new floorboards - Is this a expensive job - What type floorboards should be put down ?

    Any Advice ?

I presume it is a celtic tiger built house white or red deal running thru the whole house up stairs. one issue if it is, is that they usually ran all flooring first(was so much faster and easier) and then put the stud work up on top. The issue you have is that each room will have to be removed indivitually cutting carefully aong each wall wit skirting remove with a chain saw or saber saw. I MEAN carefully you cant be sure ther not wires or pipes close to the surface and either is not pretty. Another thing i have done is alot cheaper and does work is find the joist under the flooring and screw/nail each board individually. It should not move any more due to shrinkage if house is any way lived in or dry. I also have removed the flooring on the landing and left the rest just put a floor over it and redo landing with new floor to finish flush with last step of stairs(dont want any one tripping down or up the stairs)

    hope this helps

It does help Paddy Thanks, I was wondering about just flooring over it - It is particularly bad in the master bedroom and the Landing , We really want to put a carpet in the landing and bedroom so finding the quickest easier way to level out the floorboards is the idea.

face nail with a porta nailer or screw every board like i said and you should eliminate 80% of noise
