It's a shame , I rather like being out of touch , and can you think of anything more annoying than being sat next to someone on the phone yapping ?

Thats easy, just pay Ryanair the €8 extra charge to sit in the "quite seating area" of the plane ..

    :P

Do FR not already do this ?

As MugMugs says above Ryanair are already offering this service on selected routes.

US Virgin Atlantic customers can go one better and use their on-board wifi to use Skype for calls. I've had IM conversations with friends who were mid-flight and using it.

Didn't FR drop this service after their trial finished?

Its as dangerous as using one at a petrol station

However , I was on a Meridiana MD80 one time and the doors were closed can the engines started , the Captain then stormed out can demanded to ask who was using a phone.

It interfered with the radio , like if you are on a fixed line phone and the mobile rings you hear the clicking / humming as the radio signal interferes .

Also , if there is no cell ( ie at 35k feet ) the mobile phone will ramp it's power up and up hunting for a phone .

A self contained and controlled cell network on the aircraft using satellite and/or ground based relay stations is quite different to multiple cell phones searching for connection in the vicinity of the more important electronic devices in the cockpit..........

People still think they can do whatever they want to, even though they agreed to the terms and conditions of carriage.
    That cracks me up.

It seems the provider giving the FR service "On Air" hung up on Ryanair.

I wouldn't worry, it is not like using it on the ground, you are effectively roaming within the plane and the costs are large. I flew on Emirates recently and it was very expensive to use your phone and the wifi was expensive also. We won't see the masses chattering away at 40,000feet for another while yet.

No but you'll get them shouting in your ear on taxi and right up to take off.

Was on a Ryanair flight from Eindhoven to Rome 3 years ago with the Onair service. Didn't see anybody using their phone! If I remember correctly it was extremely expensive, even more-so than the service on Stena/Irish Ferries.

Yeah Ryanair had this and dropped it long ago. Didn't make anything from it I think.
