I need two new tyres for my car, size is 225/40/18. The garage is looking for €95 per tyre. A friend of mine has 2 x 245/40/18 off his old car, does anyone know if they would fit my wheels?

They'll fit alright but they're the wrong size.

Its like asking will my size 8 foot fit a size 12 shoe? ;)

They'd fit but they would be a good bit wider and higher on the rims, not really worth the hassle. If price is a problem get two part worn ones, should be about €50 each in that size

What size is the rim, if its 8j then 245 will fit, its the largest size acceptable on a 8j rim.
It will be sightly taller, but only by 9mm, but they may catch/scrap depending on set-up.
Is it for fronts or backs? I would keep the wider tyres on the back if you are changing, regardless of FWD or RWD.

I'd be worried about the tyres you're getting in 225/40/18 for €95 each, are they triangles or nankangs?

The 245's will likely fit your wheels but may not be suitable for the car.

And tyres for only €95 in a 225/40/18:eek: IMO, if these are the sort of tyres your shopping for then you can't afford to have 18" wheels.

    +1

I paid €130 each for Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta in that size and I considered that a good price.
