    Hi,
My 2006 model Hyundai Sante Fe's engine has died appararantly due to lack of oil despite it being regularly serviced (every 10k miles) by a Hyundai dealer. Dealer and Hyundai are not in any way helpful and I am looking at serious money for a new engine.

The car will only be 6 years old in Sept. and has only 110k miles on the clock which isn't excessive.

    Any help please?

Did you ever check the oil levels yourself?

Yes, the oil was checked once a month.

Dealer says there was actually oil in the car but there seemed to be a restriction or blockage in it getting to the engine.

Surely an oil light should have come on either for oil level or pressure

Well its way out of warranty on both age and miles. so any mechanical failure of the oil pump or similar wouldn't be covered.

Unless you had some way of proving that they were using the wrong oil or something then there is no reason to believe that you could get anything from the dealer.

As said though, before the engine was damaged beyond repair there would have been several warning signs.

Actually there were no warning signs - oil light never came on.

Having an independent engineer look at the car tomorrow.

    That's a very good plan.

I'd be wondering is there some issue that the dealer, as is often the case, couldn't be arsed to repair as its easier for them to just change the engine.

If the engine lost oil pressure then you should have had the oil light on straight away so if not I'd be wondering what has actually happened.
