Giant Twist Express hub motor fubar

A colleague's Giant Twist Express has a failed motor. Hub motor makes horrible crunching noises when driven and fails to drive. Wheel will spin freely and the bike is cycleable without power assist. Are there parts to be had for these motors or is it a new wheel?
