i am wondering if i am still eligible for claiming the back to education allowance while progressing onto a degree course in wales. i have just completed a higher national diploma, so the wales course would be a progression from this and is only one year. i will be livig in ireland and travelling over. the course is full time.

What level would the course be?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    hey,
i am just finished my Higher National Diploma under the BTEC system here in dublin. in september i will attend the final year of a 3 year hons degree course in wales. it is a progression and i will still be an undergraduate.
i've heard that i will get it beacause i am an undergraduate, and i am progressing.

I am not sure if you can receive BTEA for a course in another country, best to check with the department of education. Also, most Higher national diplomas are level 8 on the FETAC list of qualifications as are honors degrees. So the level of qualification you hold will impact on your application for BTEA.

thanks for your reply, but i can assure you that my HND is equivalent to a level 6+ in FETAC, so when i complete my degree i will be going for level 8. i have looked into this a bit more, and it says on the BTEA website that some undergraduate courses in the EU are considered for BTEA if it is a progression, but no post-grad courses are considered. but as you know, nothing is ever clear as it seems on those websites.
my best bet is to ring the social office, but also, it is hard to get straight answers out of them as well.

The department of education may be your best bet, or the facilitator in your local welfare office.

Yes you are eligible based on current criteria. It would'nt surprise me if criteria will be tweaked before September though.
