App for free SMS on Galaxy S2

Hey folks, I'm getting confused from all the apps out there for android for free texts - after researching Heywire seemed to be the way to go...but then it prompted me to get the other person to sign up; I specifically looked for apps that would work cross platform

I'm confused does cabbage need you to have web texts tied to your account? I'm on bill pay myself - Edit: Wasn't sure if I had webtexts (am new to bill pay) but housemates have put me straight - sounds like cabbage is the way to go!!

Also found Go SMS pro but is that also a matter of the other person having that app on their phone?

I just wanted something to send free SMS (not bothered about MMS) within Ireland, not too bothered about the ability for the receiver to reply directly to the message or if it has ads

I'm working off my wifi most of the time due to a small amount of packet data available on my plan

Thanks! jebus but this world of android has been a baptism of fire!

Another cabbage user here, it's excellent, I bought the cabbage ultimate too as I use it on so many devices, it's a very fair price

Yep, Even I could set up Cabbage easily and I'm pretty new to the Android world also.

I think the OP may be looking for something like WhatsApp or Viber both of these work "cross platform" and allow free texts (only data is used). Either of these would be the go to apps for this function, but they do require that all users have the app installed in order for them to work.

Cabbage is def the way forward! I also have viber but that only covers me for other users with viber installed - great thing about cabbage is the receiver doesn't need to have any apps or even a smart phone

    Serious thumbs up for cabbage!

next to find the cheapest way to call landlines - I'm thinking to get credit for skype or the like and us it specifically landline calls - think they work out a little under 2c or there about

    Thanks all for the recommendations

I haven't used cabbage in quite awhile as I not use just my work phone as it's paid for, but I believe cabbage only uses your webtexts, which has a 300 text per month limit. Just so you know. :)
