I'm just wondering what are people's opinions on how online job questionnaires should be filled out?

I have in the past applied for positions and perhaps was too modest in some of my responses and got nowhere. I spoke to a friend who applied for a job that asked one of these questionnaires and he picked excellent for the majority of over 100 questions and got the job.

Any opinions welcomed.
