Non-hotel reception...so how should we sort accommodation?

Plans starting to come together!!! It looks like Plan A is a restaurant with after party afterwards (numbers permitting). So my main worry at the mo is what's the best way to sort accommodation if we aren't having the reception in a hotel - what have other couples done? Do you block book some rooms anyway?

Happily there's lots of places nearby and both immediate families are local, we don't fancy the idea of the party dissipating early cos everyone ends up staying in different places

The problem with non hotel receptions is guests will disperse if you dont have something organised. I would approach one hotel about block booking rooms and the possibility that a few other guests (locals) will be able to stay on in the residence bar. If you are taking a good few rooms and you talk with the manager, some hotels will be more flexible.

we had a non hotel wedding a few weeks ago.

we just gave out a list of hotels in the area and said where we were staying. most people ended up in the same hotel as us but tbh it made no difference.#

we didnt get back to the hotel until 4am, and at that stage the bar was closed and we didnt see anyone the next morning due to people being to hungover to get up for breakfast

We also married in a venue with no accommodation. We sent out a list of local b and bs and hotels with our invitations and specified that those in need of accommodation would need to sort themselves out (in a nicely phrased way!). We didn't block book rooms, but there might be a difficulty in doing that if the hotel you want also does a wedding the same day as they'll probably prioritize their wedding for rooms and a residents' bar. We weren't keen on a sing song after the wedding so we didn't bother organizing anything when the wedding finished up, TBH by 2 am we were both ready for bed!

Thanks so much for the replies :) the venue we have in mind advertises as opening till 2.30 anyway, so I imagine most people will be wrecked by then and not mad for the residents' bar anyway, but sure we'll choose a place and let everyone know where we're staying if they want to stay there too. As I said, it's local so most folk would be heading home regardless of where we have the reception.

Been to plenty of weddings where we either didnt stay at all, or booked into a hotel elsewhere and that's been grand. Tis true that most people will miss breakfast anyway! Thanks too for the advice to try and ensure a wedding isnt on in the hotel we choose on the day :)

is that the one in Westmeath? A relative is having the reception there in a few months. Had no idea rooms were limited, how many are there?

Ye in Westmeath.... Limited as in not hotel size. There are four suites and twelve rooms I think max capacity is 53 so it ain't to bad but some guests will have to b and b
