    Hello,

I've just completed the foundation certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy at PCI. I was considering doing the degree course there in October but I've recently found out that the course does not provide qualifications to allow graduates to be recommended by GPs. As far as I am aware, this requires a course that is accredited by IAPPC. I am also interested in IAHIP accreditation. PCI is only accredited by IACP.

Also there is the issue of PCI having lost it's accreditation a few years back, although it has received it back again...

Does anyone else know anything about this? All advice welcome as I am considering my next step.

    Thanks.

As Odysseus says, GPs can refer to whoever they like.

Accreditation is some sort of guarantee that a person is properly trained and qualified, but that depends on the quality of the accrediting body. While psychotherapists and counsellors might know their way around the various bodies, most other people don't.

Admittedly, it was from "someone who knows someone" who graduated from PCI. It's just made things a little confusing when it comes to deciding where to do the degree. It's a lot of time and money to use if it's all for nothing in the end.

Have a serach for threads on PCI here, you should get a bit of info. Don't pay any attention to that other organisation.
