I see some of the early scores in the Irish Amateur are horrendous. 87,88 & 92. Unbelievable shooting for plus handicappers

Those guys wouldn't make the Jimmy Bruen team in most clubs with scores like that!!!

+20 For a scratch golfer wtf. How is that possible

Easy to laugh/criticise from the cheap seats, lads. Early days, with most of the favourites still to come in, so hard to call it, but you're always going to get bad scoring in any event. Take any European Tour event and you'll get guys in the 80s.

Royal Dublin off the back stakes is never gonna be easy, especially when it's freezing cold down there. Anyway, glass half full head on here, but 74 from young Gavin Moynihan is decent shooting. Should be a good watch over the weekend.

It's not too bad of a day out there today. Was speaking to a few friends who are out there watching it and they said that conditions are good.

"87 S Walsh (Portmarnock)" - unless i'm mistaken, that's a former South of Ireland champion.

As i say, easy from the cheap seats.

Somebody has to say something sure? Obviously its easier being a spectator than playing, but unless the conditions are absolutely attrocious (and it looks decent enough today) then shooting 90 or so strokes for a scratch golfer really is bad shooting

I'm working down the road and I definitely wouldn't say conditions are "good" - very blustery(I'd guess gusts at 30+ mph) and heavy showers.

Tough conditions for sho, not 92 strokes tough though :)

Are you saying they are backwards bandits©, keeping their handicap deliberately low?

Is last years winner Rhys Pugh related to Denis? Same pudgy face :)

That seemed to be the conclusion arrived at in the West of Ireland thread.

Newsflash: Front 9 very strong wind hard from the left. 7th 9th straight int.....back 9 wind hard off the right. 18holes in big crosswind is not exactly easy on a course measuring 7300yds. Wind has died off in afternoon so scores will come down a little. Hilarious stuff here from the armchairs....the 92 tho.....hmmmm hes clearly a high ball hitter...;)

I wonder can Twitter users talk about something that is being discussed on Boards.ie? I only ask this because it apparently doesn't work the other way around!

Followed him on the back 9 yesterday on the morning 18. Conditions were very tough and Gavin played some exceptional golf and his putting was excellent.

    Congrats to him! fairplay! :D

Surprised the laptop pros from earlier haven't been on to fire cheap shots about the winning score being over par.

Brilliant achievement from the young lad. Showed serious balls under pressure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 536 ✭✭✭golfbgud

"Brian Casey (Headfort) deserves special mention and his performance over the last 54 holes was remarkable. Having opened with an 8 over par round of 80, he played the final 54 holes of the championship in 2 over par to give him third place outright behind Kind".

you sir are something else, tell me does the 3 in your name refer to the IQ you have?
The posts from the golf club sellers in china have more substance and frankly are more interesting than the drivel you post. When was the last time you broke par. I understand that you are looking for a reaction from your posts and that I have reacted as such.
If you are trolling, you have a lot to learn.
You are not worthy to lace the shoes of Conno16.

In fairness Sifter you hung a carrot on the stick for someone to give u that response, its just a shame that Jul3s is such a prick about it.

Don't feed the troll....... On a positive note, Gavin Moynihan is a worthy winner, he along with Gary Hurley and Possibly Reeve Whitson are the new brilliant youngsters on the national squad. Watch all 3 closely this year.... Brian Casey is a serious talent for going very low.... Another definite possible future money maker.

On a side note I see our very own gorfield couldn't break par so how could anyone else be expected to when the best player in Muskerry, fitted by foregolf and treated to a trip down under by the GUI couldn't do it, maybe he's head was still down under.

Ahh come on, thats a bit harsh, play the ball not the man.

The issue of low handicappers keeping their handicaps artifically low is a real one and a good debate, and IMO needs to be addressed by the GUI (although it wont be :)), picking out one guy based on two rounds isn't fair. I know there was the twitter thing previously but no need to reciprocate.

Russ don't worry I won't lose sleep from from julies silly attempts at trolling, the hcap thing needs sorting yes. However the amateur open is different, it's one of the highest quality fields in Europe usually, There was 3 of the worlds top 20 playing. It's basically the golf course being so tough in 40mph crosswinds that cause the problems. It's certainly too long for me and I've never done well there as a result! It's ranked as a grade a tournament by the r&a and nobody broke 70 so that says a lot about how rough it was there.

I'm quite happy not to be hiding behind my laptop here gladly.... Julie is very brave.

Perhaps it's a tad unfair, but it's only a couple months ago he was on here using the trip down under as a brag (trying to wind people up instead of showing an appreciate of the privileged position he was in), and we hear endless plugs for foregolf, so when you put yourself out there like that it's only fair to expect it to come back at you twofold when you fail to deliver.
