240.04 divided by 27.75 = €8.65 per hour (minimum wage).

If you work unsocial hours (between midnight and 4am if i recall correctly) then the 14.5 may be due to that premium being applied as you were paid €240.04 + €14.50 = €254.54

The figures above suggest you are being paid minimum wage (unless I have made assumptions or a serious error in my calculations), I'm sure you'd know what wage your employer said they'd pay you when you joined up. If not re-check your contract of employment.

If there is a deiscrpancy in hours talk to your employer, bear in mind that your 1 hour lunch is UNPAID

No offence intended now, but if this is your second month on emergency tax, you have access to the internet and you still don't know what to do I just have to

Ring your local tax office (google the number or ask your employer) and give them your employer's tax number (or whatever it's called. It's in the same format as a PPS number and should be on your payslip. If not ask your boss).
Tell the tax office that you're working forX company (give them the employer number) now and to adjust your tax accordingly. If you're getting paid that amount every week you should be paying no PAYE and the taxman will tell your employer to refund your tax paid so far this year. your next payslip will reflect this.

    Hpe that helps.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I never work between the hours of 12 and 4am so don't understand that. I was never told what I was going to be paid and I never signed a contract either. I asked about one but it never happened.

This is the only number on my payslip besides my PPS number EMP REG:9265247E, is that it? Wow I feel stupid now ha! Thanks for telling me, the tax office is probably closed now so I will ring tomorrow thanks :)

Also I don't get a one hour lunch, some days I don't even get 15 minutes if its busy.

    Yes that's the employer's number.

It now occurs to me that if you earn circa less than €10,000 (or similar amount) that you don't pay USC, ask the tax office this tomorrow aswell it may save you a few extra euros. You may also be eligible for tax credits based on your employment sector (retail I assume) so ask the tax office about these too. The PAYE section on Revenue's website is very helpful.

1 hour break depends on whether or not you work over 6 hours between the hours of 12noon and 2pm if i recall correctly. You are legally allowed a 15 minute break if working more than 4 hours or over 6 hours a half-hour unpaid break (from what I recall). Google it, I'm not doing the hard work for you

It is illegal for an employer to employ someone and for that person not to sign a contract of employment.
This usually only happens in cash-in-hand jobs so it is very odd that you have an employer paying you through payroll and not having signed a contract of employment with you.
Its a very serious issue not to have signed one as your contract of employment sets out your job title, hours, hourly pay, premiums, and benefits etc, basically everything you should know about your job, pay, holidays and your legal rest entitlements etc.

I assume this is your first job and you are just happy to get an income but you really should spend about an hour on the Citizens Information & PAYE website in order to familiarise yourself with your legal entitlements o that you are not taken advantage of.

I would imagine if it's your first job you are more than likely not getting €14.50 per hour (if you are pm me your employers details I'll submit a CV ;) ) so the €8.65 sounds about right. So not sure what that €14.50 pay is to be honest, ask a colleague or your employer.

    And again, good luck.

Do you clock in and out? Yeah that number sounds like the employers reg number, call tomorrow, have your payslip with you and you should be refunded quickly.

I work 9 hours a day and don't get a lunch break and I know I'm entitled to one but it doesn't happen and if they say I can't get a break if I ask for one if its too busy what can I do? Just take one anyway. So I just work straight through the day but I do get the odd cigarette break.

It isn't my first job but in my other jobs they were regimental about the contract being signed first thing and me having to take my entitled breaks and informed me on everything and I was given a booklet with everything I needed to know so in this job I asked about pay, contract, breaks etc and its hard to get that information off anyone. I wasn't even asked for a copy of my ID just gave them a sheet of paper with my pps, email and mobile number.

Honestly I know if I were to start questioning things too much I would be close to being fired as other colleagues have told me so thats why I came here. :)

No they don't have a system for clocking in and out, you have to write your hours in a book at the end of every week and I wrote down all my hours and wrote 4 days in brackets beside them just to make it clear and still they got messed up. I don't know if I can actually go there tomorrow because I'm working and again no breaks so might have to be next week...

Are you sure this is for last week ? Any chance you are working a week ( or two ) in hand? You've said you've been there 2 months but your payslip indicates week 6.
Might just explain the difference in hours

I've been working there since March 24th so not quite 2 months yet. In all my other pay checks I got paid for the previous week (Monday to Sunday)
