Losing my memory !!

My HDD has been getting tight for space recently so I decided to tidy it up. I use a handy little thing called Windirstat to see where the memory is being used.

Now, when I right click on the drive and view the Properties it says that I have 40GB of space on my c:\ drive but when I run Windirstat it tells me my c:\ drive is only 10GB.

And when I right click on the drive and view the Properties it says that I have 110GB of space on my d:\ drive but when I run Windirstat it tells me my d:\ drive is only 70GB.

    Any thoughts?

Where, specifically, in Windirstat are you seeing the 10GB and 70GB figures?

I just run Windirstat and a report comes up with the two drives, C: and D:.

One of the column headings is Size and below that it says c: is 10gb and d: is 70GB.

Now I have just found options in the menu and clicked on Show Free Space and Show Unknown and now the correct sizes of memory (110GB and 40GB) appear.

But how can I access these areas ?

When you initially run a check on Windirstat it will show you the amount of space being used, rather than the amount of space free. In my case, I have two drives:

Drive C: Space used - 93.1GB's used and 173GB's free
Drive D: Space used - 100MB's used and 29.9GB's free

When I run the check on Windirstat it tells me that I have 84.9GB's in the >Size column on the C Drive.

If you have Show Free Space and Show Unknown unticked, it will only show you are using, not what you have free. Or that is my understanding of it anyway.

Out of interest, when you go to My Computer and right click on your drives then hit properties, how much used space and free space do each have?

1GB free and 48GB free respectively.

could it be that my drive is partitioned? and that 30gb is unformatted?
    How would I find out?
