Looking for a family car - avensis, mondeo, primera 2007 or older for around the 6k mark. Is it doable? Would prefer lowish mileage as need this to last a long time. Or any recommendations for a different family car? Living in Wicklow and working in Dublin. Thank you.

Mondeo, Avensis or Octavia are good choices, from what I've seen. I've driven an '07 Avensis and found it a nice, spacious chariot. Hatchback versions will give you plenty of space and access for strollers and whatnots.

Thanks for the replies but I can't seem to find loads of options on websites like cbg.ie
Should I be looking at 7k/8k in the hope that the dealer would reduce the price through bargaining?

Avoid dealers - you should be looking at private sales asking up to, say, €7500ish.

Do check out dealers. Carzone is a great place, that's where I got my car. If you find a car you like, have it out for a test drive, then ask the dealer how fixed he is on the price. You will get something off for sure, they price them higher so you seem to get a better deal when you bargain down.

When we were changing our family car all the dealers we visited offered the car at a lower than the asking price when questioned on the sale price. Some dealers will tell you what (price) they 'need to get' on a car. If you have 6k to spend look at cars just under the 7k mark.;)

Petrol or Diesel? You can buy 2007 Honda Accord Executive 2.0 petrol for around 6K. Gorgeous car. I have one and I can't wipe the smile off my face while I drive it.
