I can't find a developing county with rich and poor regions stating differences between the regions. There only seems to be Ireland and Italy, which are developed countries.

Pretty sure you only have to know a developed country and the differences between two regions.
What question and from what year of the exam papers did you see this ?

Don't think you need to know that, but you could talk about Hong Kong, generally a rich place but also has massive shanty towns.

We were told that all you need to know is Italy and Ireland as well.

Contrasting the differences between the West and Midlands in Ireland. And the North and South of Italy.

That's what I'm confused about. Our teacher gives us handouts from past mock papers, I think. Here is the question:

"Many differences can exist between rich and poor people in both developing and developed countries."

Examine one difference between rich and poor people in a developing country you have studied and one difference between rich and poor people in a developed country you have studied.

How many marks is each part ? the geog marking scheme is fairly handy, you get a certain amount of marks for a statement eg In italy the south is under developed both socially and economically, then you get a certain amount of marks for developing the point you just stated.Usually 2 for statement and 3 for development in a 5 mark answer.
Think about that when writing an answer you feel you don't know much about :)

    You could do Sweden :)

    North:
    Lack of mineral wealth
Climate is unfavorable for people and agriculture.
    Low pop. density .
Mention natives (Sami People and how many young Sami move south for better opportunities etc.)
    Basically the north is poor!

    South:
    Rich
Nice Climate means it is attractive for people and agriculture can take place year round.
    Soils are also fertile here.
Rich in mineral wealth. Zinc etc. This means that Swedish car companies; Saab and Volvo have located in the south creating employment.
High pop. density and there are cities eg. Stockholm and Malmo.
