play.com Gift Voucher Query

    Hey guys,

I've already read the sticky about play.com and could not find an answer there so I am trying here...

My sister bought me a gift voucher for play.com and I am unable to redeem the voucher on their site. It appears to me that they only redeem gift vouchers if the products are delivered to a UK address, does anyone know if this is the case? I've checked their site and there is no mention of this. I've emailed them twice about it, but they are completely avoiding the question and they keep redirecting me to the FAQ section of the site....very annoying.

The products I have selected are not electronic and so their policy of not shipping electronic products to Ireland does not apply here.

The voucher is for £30. Regardless of whether I shop in Euro or GBP when I go to the checkout appears in Euro, I presume this is because my delivery address is in Ireland. When I select "I have a gift voucher" I get the message "Gift vouchers can only be used for GBP orders". It seems to be a vicious circle of frustration :)

Does anyone here have experience of the same problem? Like I said, I've emailed play.com twice but their reponses are completely avoiding my question of "am I entitled to use the voucher and ship my items to Ireland?".

    Thanks!!

Gift vouchers have a claim code with a 16 digit combination of letters and numbers and can be redeemed at Play.com on any purchase made in GBP sterling

Looks like it according to the FAQ's you could try contacting the support team to enquire.

Items priced in euros can only be delivered to European addresses outside the UK.
Electronic items, gadgets and toys can only be delivered to UK addresses.

You cannot even select GPB for delivery outside Europe.

Something else you could try is changing the country to United Kingdom and put portal code as REP IRL I got electronics deliver to Ireland after reading about that trick in another thread in boards. If the item is deliver by courier probably won't work.

WARNING that worked for me and others doesn't mean is going to work for you.

It seems like you cannot use the voucher. Play.com will not sell in GB£ unless your delivery address is in the UK. If they also won't let you use a voucher in any currency other than £, then you can't use it.

Can I buy gift voucher for someone in dollars or euros?

No, not at this time. Only pounds sterling gift voucher are available.

Which means it cannot be redeemed by you, and should not have been bought in the first place.

Reading the T&Cs it sounds like they might change the policy in the future, is there an expiry date on them? you might want to hold onto them a while.

Otherwise you could sell them on ebay or adverts.ie people who travel up north might be able to use them, or there are other tricks, e.g. my friend goes to a business premises up north once a week, or I have colleagues who come over from the UK, if it was a small item I could have it sent to them and have them carry it.

I was thinking of ordering stuff from US only sites before and have it sent to my hotel in the US before I even arrive, out of state so no sales tax. Same could be done if you had a trip to the UK -of course you would email the hotel in advance to check its OK.

If you had friends/family in the UK you could order stuff to them as a birthday/christmas present, or just forward them on the vouchers, but you might want to split the £30, and buying items lets you do this.
