    Hi all,
how do you go about in getting a new licence plate in Ireland? Would you need to get an Nct test first, even when the German car passed the equivalent test in Germany last year. Now based in Kerry, would appreciate advice.

    Registration & VRT details: http://www.ncts.ie/vrt.html
The NCTS will also carry out an NCT if it is over 4 years old.

From memory, you'll need your Fahrzeugbrief and also any VRT payable. You will need to NCT the car, and you'll probably need to replace your headlights with RHD units to pass the test.

Yes, you need to do NCT, even though car has valid test from country of origin.
Even though it's against EU rules, Ireland is still forcing people to do that.

It may cost you nothing if you have had the car for more than 6 months registered on your name when living abroad.

If you are importing a car, make an NCT?vrt appointment.
You will need to bring the following,
    Vehicle,
    Registration documents
    Purchase receipt,
    ID
    Proof of address,
    PPS no.,
    MOT or its equivelent.
Money.you can calculate the amount on the VRT website.
    If you have lived abroad,
it's as seweryn says, in that case you need to contact revenue first.

What for do they ask for it, if they don't accept it?

If you don't have an MOT,they'll do a basic road worthines check.

But they won't give you NCT cert then.
You have to do it separately and pay €50.

What's the purpose of that basic roadworthiness check then?

It's a bit of joke really, on one occassion I trailered a car to the NCT/VRT centre, I was asked to move the car back and forward on the the trailer, test done.
