I had to replace my steering rack on my mk1.5 Focus, was looking on eBay and was just about to buy a reconditioned one for 125euros when I got a good second hand one off of donedeal. Got it for 85 euros and fitting for 120 euros. Mick's Garage quoted me 500 euros+ for a reconditioned steering rack (fcuk you Mick)!

    Thnaks Sham for your input.

found one company in santry, wanted 165 euro, i think that a bit too much.

there is none steering rack for my avensis in ebay :(

i am bit scared buy second hand, as they may be goner.

anyone may clarify , is that avensis hatchback and sedan have same racks ?

fitting myself... :) anyway steering fluid has to be changed.

i didnt check inner rods, but today i removed steering column, thought it gone, but found that actually shaft from rack.. that small bit which connects to steering column, moves a bit, kinda freeplay, i think it shouldnt be like that.

I've had no problem with my second hand steering rack. I'd say search around some more, 165 euros mightn't be too bad for a reconditioned one and if you fit it yourself.
