    if your laptops wireless adapter is indeed on, it's a problem with your router.

    Windows? Can you get into the wifi manager and scan for signals? Tried turning the gateway off and on again? Can you connect to the gateway via ethernet and check to see if wifi is on/SSID broadcasting?

    the problem was that the driver for the wi-fi was turned off for some reason so i had to find it and turn it back on
