Talk about 2% of the people owning 98% of the wealth.

How many hospitals would this buy in Africa?

Oh well none of my business.

The Africans are already a third world race and now you want to take their hospitals too?

More worthless rubbish. Another prime candidate for the "Emperor's New Clothes" award. One of these days there's going to be a day of reckoning in the Arts world to rival the property crash - it can't come soon enough.

Thought this comment said it all: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18001432?postId=112471895#comment_112471895

The wall in my front room is painted the same colour. Will someone pay me $80* million for it?

*It's going at a discount for this week only.

Meh. I'll put it into the same category as wine banks; wine that is worth lots, but will never be drank, as it's more expensive if the bottle is never opened

At least with art, you can look at it, I suppose.

You could probably build a well in every village in an African country for that, what is it supposed to be anyway? Some people shouldn't be let have money if they're going to spend it on shíte like that.

so get off your high horses. compared to the worlds poor you are every bit as rich and wasteful as whatever idiotic ****wit bought this ****e painting.

Maybe, though at the moment it seems just as much a second level money substitute for the hyper rich. A way for them to move money around the place largely tax free. Try moving 50 million in dodgy money from one country to he next, not so easy. Roll up a picasso in a tube and it's a lot easier. And that's a recognisable name, some splatter on canvas only known to those in the rarified art world would be even easier.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

*update - just changed screen saver back to three hot girls in thongs in Miami Beach.

I think it's one of those 3D Seeing Eye pictures as I've been staring at it for five minutes and can now see the Mc Donalds logo in the middel of it.

Art is a handy store of wealth. That, more than anything else, explains the amazingly high prices in the contemporary art industry. That's neither a good or bad it just is.
