    Q. My product isn't listed as a 'qualifying product' can I still claim the VAT Cashback?
    A. Only products listed as a 'qualifying product' and from a qualifying retailer are eligible for a VAT Cashback claim.

    How it works

Simply purchase a qualifying Samsung Notebook, Display, Printer or SSD from a qualifying retailer to be eligible to claim back the VAT on your purchase.

Purchases of the qualifying Samsung products made during the promotional period of 28th March 2012 to 7th May 2012 are eligible to claim.

It's not "any" Samsung product, it's a quite limited number of products... http://www.samsungvatback.com/terms

Sony had a similar vat back deal before and some people ran into trouble with it.

Its seems a really complicated and awkward way of just trying to give people a discount. They could have just reduced wholesale prices or had vouchers or something.

I think companies do this VAT back marketing to play on peoples poor maths! i.e. If the TV cost €1000 then some might wrongly presume they get €230 back since VAT is 23%. When in fact you are getting 18.67% back of what you paid. The €1000 TV was €813 ex VAT,
    €813*23%=€187
    €813+€187=€1000

So be careful when checking if they are good deals. Also I think powercity were advertising some sony items with the reduction already made on them.

How is 18% discount a swindle?

Its a marketing bid/ploy to get/swindle people to fork out top dollar on "selected" items.

The thread title should also be ammended/changed as its wrong/missleading too.

Its mad that it doesnt say that all the same on the website like you said rubadub
    Q. How will I know the VAT rate which will determine the cashback amount I will receive?
    A. In the UK and Northern Ireland, the VAT rate is twenty percent (20%), in the Republic Of Ireland the VAT rate is twenty three percent (23%).

They know exactly what they are at, thats what I was getting at, its a con to play on peoples quick/wrong assumptions.

A similar sneaky marketing phrase is 'buy one, get second half price' I think most people presume this is a better deal than it really is when worded 'you must buy 2 to get 25% off both' which is the same thing.

If I buy a qualifying Samsung item and claim the VAT back through my company, can I also send the receipt off to claim this 'cashback offer' from Samsung.
i.e. Samsungs offer is nothing to do with actually claiming VAT, it's just worded that way to indicate you can get back approx 20% of the price you pay?
