AMD HDMI Not Plugged In

Hi Guys, tried the search function and nothing so I'll start a new thread.

I have a ATI Radeon HD 5700 series graphics card and I have a monitor running from the DVI and a HDTV connected via HDMI. The HDMI1 option on the TV is sky and HDMI2 is the pc. I've had this setup for over a year with no problems but in the past few weeks I've been getting the "not plugged in" message under control panel>sounds. This only happens when I change from HDMI2 to HDMI1 on the tv. There is a way around it, if I extend or duplicate the picture across the 2 screens the sound comes back but if I change from HDMI2 to HDMI1 and back again the sound goes again with the same message. Anyone have any ideas what might cause this? I've reinstalled the audio drivers and there's no change. Anyone know what might be causing this?

    thanks!
