Have the GAA announced which games are to be shown live on RTE or Tv3 yet. According to Paddy Power website Galway and Roscommon have a 2 o clock throw in on Sunday week so i imagine that is to facilitate television.

No idea of the schedule but you are right about the 2pm thrown in

Games that will be on TV on a Sunday usually throw in at 2pm and 4pm
Games not on TV usually will have a 3.30pm throw in.

What percentage of the half time breaks will be taken up with ads on TV3 this year?

As far as I know there will be less live games on TV this Summer. Sometimes only 1 live game on the Sunday as opposed to two.

The Galway v Roscommon game is a four o'clock start. The Connacht junior final is on at two between Galway and Mayo also in the Hyde.

That decision seems to be made from the GAA rather than the tv stations. Remember reading the GAA head honchos felt too much live tv coverage was negatively affecting attendance

The BBC will also have 5 Ulster SFC games live too, with the other three games (of which two are remaining) being shown deferred.

Nice new opening titles for the Sunday Game today, the previous ones were a bit long in the tooth.

RTE have Clare v Limerick on Saturday at 7pm and the Tipperary v Waterford on Sunday at 4pm. Both on RTE2 and RTE2HD.

TV3 have Mayo v Sligo on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

Galway vs. Sligo was exclusively live online only a month ago. The reason there's less is because the GAA are living in the fantasy land where less TV coverage is better for the sport.

No, but I can guarantee there will be lots of frankly tedious provincial quarter finals and semi finals shown in the football, around 16 of these ~20 games will be shown live.

Mmmmm, I was a bit optimistic thinking there'd be one game shown in the first two rounds of the football qualifiers. Zero is the total.

So by Sunday evening after the second round of qualifiers there'll be a total of 16 counties eliminated from the All Ireland football so far, and not one of these 16 knockout ties will have been shown live. The entire output of live football matches will have been about 10 or 12 provincial quarters and semis where no-one gets knocked out.

Quite how the GAA get sponsors and TV companies on board with this set-up baffles me. Fair dues to them I guess.

Disgraceful stuff. 2 round of football qualifiers knockout and not a game live. GAA is a farce, Clare hurling team have been shown 3 times live after this evening by my count. I've nothing against them but I want to see different teams.

It wouldnt be so bad either, if their highlights show wasnt so ****e with dire coverage. Basically its impossible to see most teams quality with travelling half the country to see them.

    Great day of qualifiers today

Why the GAA, and not RTE/TV3? I'm not saying it isn't partly due to the GAA, but surely the broadcasters are also responsible?

Thats a good point but as far as I'm aware, the GAA greatly reduced their television package due to falling attendances. I seen an article earlier in the year stating as much.

The very least they could have done was show one football qualifier and one hurling, each round. There was several interesting ties, and judging by todays results we missed out. Showing 30 seconds at half 11 on the sunday game is not enough.

Pretty certain it is the GAA who impose the limit on the number of qualifers shown per weekend.

Fortunately I'm from Clare originally or I'd be bitching much louder :)

There is one its called Setanta and I don't think too many subscribe to it. AFAIK they went for rights a few years ago but the GAA wanted to keep them free to air. I could be wrong tho.

Whilst it's difficult to get to the specifics of the contracts it does seem as if the TV deal limited the coverage in this round of qualifiers to one game.

There was always going to be 8 football and 2 hurling qualifers this weekend, and between them TV3 and RTE had to select the game and horsetrade who was showing it (presumably TV3 will now get the choice in a later round).

One game, and one game only was the 'qualifier package' offered by the GAA for this weekend, so to blame the broadcasters for not showing more seems churlish. They don't have the option.

Perhaps where TV3/RTE could be blamed is that they bid for the other available packages at all - maybe to bring the frankly ridiculous situation to a head the broadcasters should refuse to bid for the packages compromising provincial quarter and semi finals. If the GAA wish to limit TV coverage to 30 games or whatever it is, then the TV companies should demand that these games should be knockout games. At the moment the GAA appear to be in control of the TV deals, which is not something that the TV companies should allow to happen.

  • Site Banned Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭DB10

On another note, I'd rather watch the football qualifiers which are knockout, than some of the boring provincial football we've seen this year.

Whens the last time Antrim footballers have been televised for instance. It's not out of the question to say they wont be televised this year or even next year!
