Mods feel free to move, not sure if Im in the right place.

I fractured a metacarpal in my hand and will have a cast on for 4 weeks. Theres a possibility I wont be able to make my appointment to get it removed which would mean keeping the cast on for an extra week as the clinic is only on once a week. Would I be safe enough removing it myself after 4 weeks or will I need to go get it checked regardless?

Could you ring them and find out?

I don't know if this crosses not medical advice ?

But, from experience, they won't take a cadt off without an X-ray first, so I don't think they would recommend removing it yourself . While we would expect the bones to have healed by then, I think they need to check first.

As above, check with the clinic or your gp. It's not easy to get a cast off anyway...

just smash it off a wall as hard as you can as many times as it takes for the cast to be gone. if after about 50 full force haymakers into the wall you havent managed to remove it, you're probably not 100% healed and should leave it on. it's important to keep an accurate count though because if you lose track you have to start at 1 again.

    best of luck op....

I've removed my own cast twice now. They're handy enough to remove but, eh, I broke a bone in the same hand a few years later and the X-Ray showed the other break hadn't healed properly.

The other break was grand though. So from my data pool, you could surmise that there's a 50% chance you'll be grand.
