Hi guys i am helping a friend make a few changes to a house.... He wants to add zone valves to his central heating system... At the moment he has none, he is thinking of using the s plan or maybe even the s plan plus.... but im curious to find out is it possible to do this with the system already installed... I can see its possible to add a zone valve to the horizontal pipe feeding the dhw cylinder coil but how would i go about adding to heating circuit..

I know that there are tee's in the hot press also that would be feeding the radiators so adding a zone valve here would (some-what zone the radiators) but i wouldnt really know how many rads that would be on that circuit would I??? Or would the tee (one flow one return 1/2") be feeding all the radiators in the house?

I am used to seeing a manifold in hotpress for we say 1 circuit for down stairs and another for upstairs so this would be easy to make into the s plan plus.. But as in this case would it be even possible to go ahead with the s plan plus..

Sounds like it maybe only possible to separate DHw & CH, but supplement with TRVs (even the wireless programmable ones) but gets a bit expensive

Don't forget to fit an auto bypass too!

Ya but see where the pipes are t'd off the flow & return which i assume are t's for the radiators doesnt necessarily mean its for all the rads... its an old system so tee's could be tee'd all over the place on f & r underground... Could that be a possible case?? Basically boiler is right at the front of the house and the dhw cylinder is at the back, so fearing they will have tee'd off while passing through..

Ya was planning to put bypass by boiler just after pump would that be sufficient.. Thanks for response?
