    Hi,

My housemate is 21 years old, will be 22 in June. She has been working at a restaurant for between 6 months - 1 year, she was hired as a full time worker. She never really got full time hours, she only worked five days some weeks and four other weeks, avg. about 4.25 or 4.5 days.

She recently got put down to a three day week and got a letter from the employer stating this which she brought to the social welfare to apply for JSB/JSA. I think due to previous work in another job she may have enough contributions to get JSB but not sure.

For 21 year olds the rate is only e100 per week, so does this mean she will only receive one fifth of the 100 euro for each day she is out of work, ie: 40 euro when she works three days? And when she turns 22 in June, how does she go about getting the rate raised? as she would then be entitled to e144.00 for the week and likewise one-fifth of 144 for each non-working day)?

actually for jobseekers benefit the reduced rate doesnt apply and if she qualifies for 188 thats what she recieves. this also carries over if she moves onto ja after her benefit expires. at the moment in social welfare offices people are paid on a 6 day week not a 5. new rules in the budget have been issued but social welfare have yet to recieve adequete instructions on how this will effect part time and casual workers. at the moment for every day you loose a sixth. if you work more than 3 a week then you will not receive a payment for that week. sunday is not regarded as a day of work but is taken into account when checking for a subloss
