What extra channels will a Sky FTV card provide?

My Dad uses a Sky box out of subscription to view UK free satellite TV. He was just telling me that Sony movies has replaced a couple of other movie channels.

I did a quick Google and it says that Sony Movies is available if you buy a Sky free-to-view card for £25.

Are there other channels that would come through with the Sky free-to-view card that don't without it?

    Is it worth it?

A FTV card will allow you to view the following channels:
    Channel 5 HD
    Pick TV
    Pick TV +1
    Sony TV
    Sony TV+1
    Liverpool FC TV
    Motors TV
    VIVA
    Sony Movies
    Sony Movies +1

If you have a UK address then you can order one direct from Sky for £20.

An Irish FTV card via Setanta allows
    Motors
    Viva
    Liverpool
    Sony Movies
    Sony Movies +1
    Sony TV
    Setanta FTV programmes
not sure about the others at the moment

    and is free of charge.

Got a FTV card from Setanta and clears only FTV Setanta programs only on Ariva 120 ?

The Irish/ Setanta FTV cards are the same as an ex-sub Irish card which means it will put an Irish EPG on the Sky box meaning no ITV's, Channel 5's or viewable Channel 4's.

Did you put it in a Sky box for Setanta to arrange it to be activated? (or whatever they do)

I did and mine is now in the Ariva 120, and I have the channels I listed above.

I don't have Sony TV +1 .... will have to find out what its tuning info is ....

That then would be a function of the box it seems, rather than the card ..... ?
I see the OP mentioned a Sky box ......

Yes, I was answering on behalf of the OP's question, with a programmable box like the Ariva then you can take advantage of the extra channels without loosing all the normal FTA channels.

Yes, SD box will give the exact same SD channels as HD box just be aware of the differences between the UK FTV and Irish/ Setanta FTV card.

Are the Sky FTV cards regional i.e. can they be set up for arranging the channels with BBC NI and UTV on the EPG as they would appear with a NI subscription?

Yes, they are, you would need a NI FTV card if you wanted BBC1 NI on 101 and UTV on 103.
