I think its french polished Mahogany, can anyone confirm or does anyone recognise it?

    Thanks in advanced,

What does the glass in the mirror look like? i mean is it clear or slightly blurred from the side?

It looks like an Edwardian sideboard in mahogany. I wouldn't be that keen on restoring this as from the picture it looks pretty good.

Unless a restoration is very well done and retains the aged look of the furniture you could reduce its value.

If its just a clean up of the top part why not use scratch coat for mahogany.

The glass is clear with an inch wide angled piece around the edge of each piece.

When I say restore I mean a polish up really, I've experience with wood working but nothing like this. The top is patchy on one side and has a crack about a foot long.
I just wanted to polish up the top and perhaps fill the crack, would this be too risky or ambitious? I don't want to reduce its value or damage it in any way, just clean it up a little bit.

What is scratch coat for Mahogany?
    Thanks for your help

Scratch coat is a small bottle of polish you can buy in most hardware stores.

Fill the crack with melted wax before you polish the surface.

I suggest you call into woodies or similar and have a look at the products available for what you intend doing.
