hello, all im thinking of getting A tv tuner on my pc. Nothing to fancy like pinnicle tv tuner or Techniksat Skystar 2 DVB pci car.

    How do they work.

I have a DM500 will they work fine with both ?

I know both tuners are old but which is the best ?

    thanks

I checked the Techniksat Skystar 2 and it looks like it only supports DVB-S. You should try and get a card that supports DVB-S2 as services are generally moving over to that instead. If you go with a DVB-S card then you won't be able to watch some channels, like the BBC HD ones.

    Confusing post.
What satellite do you want to receive? Astra is all digital now.
What part is the dream box playing, or are you just replacing it

On Irish digital there are 8(ish) channels. Check our saorview.ie
They are the only channels you will receive wit a dvbt tuner in blanch

If you get a satellite card, you can get freest from the uk, check out freesat.co.uk to see the channels.

If you have UPC, you can plug an old analog card in and get the 17 basic channels or the output from your mediabox

It's not that much hassle, post back if your decide to go ahead. I've been using a pc for tv for years so will try help out.

It you just want channels or programs online another option is streaming.

    Sites like
    aertv.ie for Irish
    filmon.tv for UK
1channel.tv for everything else are an easy way to get set up

xbmc as a frontend let's you use most of them via a remote too

Im impressed by your ability to confuse a request.

You're looking for a satellite DVB-s2 card. I picked up my hauppauge one from e-bay for 50 quid, Less the n half of its normal price.

The TBS card on the top of this E-bay list for 70 quid is a good option:
