Given that the cards are falling for a likely home final for Leinster, possibly against Munster, what are the constraints against using Lansdowne Road on the nominated final weekend given Rep of Ireland v Bosnia is on Sat 26th at 3pm?

Would be a pity not to have it available for what may be Leinsters biggest day in history, celebrating the double as ticket demand will be huge for it

IT will be in the RDS. Ticket demands won't be that big, as probably about 15k+ Leinster fans will be dishing out the dosh a week before to get to Twickers.

I'd prefer it in the RDS anyway... It's becoming a bear-pit for us...

Given that there are only two weeks to sell out the stadium I doubt they will use aviva

Ah please no talk of the final yet till the semi is won. Dont jinx it lads.

They wouldn't fill the Aviva, the major problem with awarding 'home' finals is the home team has little time to sell out a big stadium.

Think with it having to be in the Aviva on the less ideal times of either Friday evening or Sunday afternoon would not help ticket sales either.

Does anyone think there could be issues raised by the Gardai about having it on the Saturday night in the RDS, given the other match already being on that day?

I went to Cardiff last year but also made the trip to Thomond to make the final. Althou it was a sad day as the team seemed to be in a hangover shape the same as me

I would love to see the final in RDS.....would be great.....

Ah its not that bad is it? Anyways one game at a time people. We need to win next week against Glasgow before we should be chatting away about a final.

washman, I'm shocked. It's not like you to use the term bandwagon...

THAT IS my whole point, the club game is virtually ruined due to the hype of the HEC, a better pitch,a bigger crowd (makes a better atmosphere) thus makes a better game all round, but why can the bandwagon not see this??

"People see club and province as different."
think you've said it all in that sentence, genuine fans would not see it like this whereas the bandwagon do. like those in say carlow/kilkenny/laois who purported to be munster fans in 2006-2009. looks like they've now switched allegiance to Leinster now.
    washman3 wrote: »
but i will also follow my club in the AIL come what may. funny to see all these "avid" Leinster fans coming out of the woodwork now.
    LONG LIVE THE BANDWAGON.

At the old Thomond, Leinster fans used to gather underneath the scoreboard at the Caherdavin end, all 15-20 of them.!! but since the bandwagon has come on board the "fans" are now generally scattered around the ground, but dont be fooled by the Raybans and fake tan as many Munster "fans" also use this attire.!!:D

Get really upset when referred to as a bandwagon.:)

Strange how many people nowadays claim to be lifelong Leinster "followers". any time i've watched them play over the last 3 decades no more than 100 souls were in attendance (with the exception of the last 10yrs or so)
P.S. the Irish Hockey team are on a roll at the moment, think i may become familiar with the rules and jump aboard.:)

    Oh wait.....nevermind

Really don't see any problem with the bandwagon, as long as they are vocal in the ground.

Whether the Aviva would sell out or not, they'd definitely get more than capacity at the RDS and it'd be a great occasion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

IF? Leinster get to the final and will play munster, i would imagine it will be at Lansdowne. The Cardiff match was near sold out (minus away tickets) the day after tickets went on general sale and season ticketers were looked after. It might be a different story in regard the Ospreys but if they price tickets cheaply then they shouldnt have many problems. Brand expansion is worth just as much with €20/€30 tickets of regular match goers at a sold out RDS.

Lads, what are we discussing here?

There is an international soccer game in the Aviva on the same day. If Leinster qualify, it WILL be in the RDS.

I am not going to talk about Leinster in the final as i think we are just being presumptious but I will debate with some generality.

The Pro12 final is on the Saturday or Sunday, according to Pro12 wesbite so date not set down yet, so potentially could be on the Sunday in the Aviva if required. Although most likely would be in the RDS on the Saturday.

There's some rule that they need the stadium for 24 hours in advance of the game or something. I can't see the demand anyhow.

To be honest I hope it's Ospreys, and in the RDS. Nothing against Munster, it's just we owe them....

I was in with Ospreys fans for that game. I went grey watching it. Same backline move over and over and over again. The Welsh lads seemed to enjoy it.

    Buggers!

Payback would be nice, but it was hardly the Ospreys fault we had no gameplan that day.

Agreed. But that's even more motivation. :)

That game was the death of the cheika era.

After that it really was time for fresh ideas.

Well you really do lead a sheltered life.!! At 9.30pm on a Sunday night during a bank holiday weekend, digging up posts that somebody made previously on various threads. if you spend more time you will actually find many, many more of my "bandwagon" posts. And most were posted long before you joined boards.ie in August 2011.
If you're still around in 2013 i will still refer to the bandwagon,if they have'nt deflected to the Rep.of Ireland soccer team by then.;)
But congratulations on receiving 17 thanks so far. Thats approximately the same amount that usually frequented Donnybrook for Leinster games in the not too distant past.
I will shortly be commencing a thread in the After Hours forum regarding bandwagon supporters across various sports in Ireland and abroad.
Might be more interesting than a thread about a final that neither Munster or Leinster has yet reached. :D

Fantastic, Leinster Rugby wouldn't be the same without you. It's an honour to have you in our midst.

Maybe, in your opinion, it'd be better if we moved back to the Brook and just have 17 supporters there? Wouldn't that be nice?

Or maybe you should consider who else posts on this forum, perhaps some of us are part of that 'small' crowd that made up the Leinster support in Donnybrook in the 'not so distant past'.

Edit: Also, those bandwagon are awfully handy when you need 50,000 people screaming for your team in the Aviva. LR go out of their way to make people who weren't previously aware of Rugby or the brand aware. Who cares who or when people started following Leinster? Are you saying people are not welcome to support Leinster unless they were following them at a time and place of your liking? Ridiculous.

actually...I think you'll find that the total thanks amount to 18.

Bandwagons are good, especially if we can keep them coming back for more and spending their money. Raises the profile of rugby in this country. What can be bad about that?

The increase in fans has led to the increase in investment and it has snowballed from there.

Still, if you'd rather stand in your little huddle and sneer at the newcomers, you're quite welcome to do so with your buddies. Don't do it here.

There is no bandwagon and no fan is more deserving of being called a supporter than any other.
If there was a bandwagon, you were most likely on it yourself.

A sport aims itself at new supporters. Thats the whole purpose of promoting a game and capitalising on success of whatever team is in question. Its how a sport grows and your money is no better than anyone else's.
