What characteristics define whether an animal is gold medal or other wise?

Being hearing about these classifications and would like to know how many different medals there are per species and what defines each.

    Cheers

TBH this medal lark can go to extremes and a point of silliness too.
Its one reason my family left en mass the Safari club.
You have people there paying small fortunes trying to shoot the perfect or record head of all kinds of animals, and literally running out with a tape measure and measuring the head and rejecting it as being imperfect before the critter is even cold on the ground!!

Hunting is not just about getting the "best" head and a piece of metal to hang under it.It should be the experiance, the stalk, the shot, and proably the most important the cooking and eating of your animal!:)

If you happen to be out and a record trophy does happen to cross your path and you drop it ,well then Diana was very kind to you that time. But to be going out looking specifically for that " gold trophy" animal shouldnt and isnt the objective at all.

After a lifetime of hunting on four continents and now a house full of roe and red deer antlers.I asked my uncle ,who had a phase of this "medal fever" what was his best trophy?? In the end he said...Its the one hanging on your wall.Medal or not.
The medal is only a fleeting thing,as somone will shoot somthing better within a certain time frame. It only means somthing to you and no one else, proably costs alot to shoot because of its trophy status, and tastes the same as any other animal if you cook it.Take it as the hyper bonus not the wage packet.

"If you want to keep someone away from your house, Just fire the shotgun through the door."
