Pathfinder is the best utility watch around IMHO
    Has everything and withstands everything.

They're becoming very popular in work at the moment (I'm in the defence forces), a nice watch but I don't think they're up to the hacking a G-shock will take - some are looking a little rough after a time.

OP there's a thread in the military forum on various watches which might interest you as the lads there give any piece of equipment a good hacking.

G-Shocks are great watches, I posted a photo (in this forum) of my original G-Shock which I bought in Lebanon back in 1988 - still on its original battery and strap :) But I've put it into retirement and replaced it with another ~ G300ML (in matt black).

anyone find the plastic around the screen of Gshocks seems to crack when being hacked about due to warm swimming pools or other abuse

i think Creation Watches is one of the best sites online for G-SHocks

    http://www.creationwatches.com/

i've bought from them - very fast free delivery - there is a smal chance i guess you could be hit with customs as it's outside EU, but prices are worth the risk IMO.

Hacking? Pun intended?:D What I would generally avoid are actual military issued watches, especially the American stuff. Some, like the Marathon SAR are tough as old boots, but most are not IMHO. For ones that look the same, but are of far higher quality and have the same (best IMHO) tritium based luminous dial you could do worse than Traser*. The German army have a nice quartz bund watch issued to their forces. Titanium body, well protected, but pricey at the mo as they're rarely seen in civilian hands. They seem to take punishment. I"ve seen a couple after active service and they looked like new.

Or their issued dive watch, another heavy duty yoke. Though in the case of the latter it's got an analogue dial, not digital. personally speaking if I was reduced to one 'hack" watch I'd go for an actual rated divers watch. By design they're going to be heavy duty, "waterproof" and resistant to any other crap knocking around. Something that's rated to say 500 metres underwater is gonna have one tough casing.

Yea, for price and forget about it robustness, you can't really go wrong with one of the simpler G-Shocks. The ones with hands and complications IMHO are a lot less robust.

*though why actual military types would use them in situations that might include enemy contact is beyond me as they light up like an effin Christmas tree at night. You could damn near read a book by the light of a new example.
