Ballyhoura, facilities.

What's the extent of the facilities available onsite at Ballyhoura? I was thinking of cycling down and spending a few days exploring the trails and sleeping in the woods over the summer. As far as I know there are showers but are there lockers of any kind where I could stash a bit of gear and my tent while riding the trails?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend cheap accomodation nearby (10-15km range) preferably camping or else hostel/B&B etc?

I'm pretty sure there aren't any lockers but can't really remember. And just to let you know you can ride the whole big loop of trail in a couple of hours, I don't know how much exploring you could do down there really, though it is a pleasant place to spend a few hours.

I live near the Ballyhouras in a town called Kilmallock (bout 12km), nice small hotel in the town with good rates and they make takeaway lunches too :-), call them to enquire of an offer. I go up the Ballyhouras, road cycling, mountain biking, walking and running and the funny thing is I still havent seen half of what is to offer, if you like the outdoors its a great place to be :D

Surely it takes the guts of 5/6 hours to do the whole 51k loop? U wouldnt be doing road bike averages up there. I did the 17k in Jan and it took a fair while.

It doesn't take anything near that length of time, even the marathon champs in 2010 which were over 60k, flooded back country and didn't have all the nice groomed offical trails took about 4 hours.

The last time I rode the full "offical" loop, which granted is almost two years ago, I don't think it took 4 hours to do.

IMHO Ballyhoura is a one day trip.
