Getting my Medical files

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum but I couldn't find where to post this.
I just heard that my doctor has retired and I am wondering if I can get my medical files and bring them to another doctor or does she have to do it and will/is there a fee for this .
I am just having a complete guess here but does this come under the freedom of information act?
Again thanks in advance for all replies .

I could be very wrong but I thought the files were passed onto a replacement doctor.

I think you can fill out and sign a form at your new doctors to have them transfer your history. It's common enough when people move location or just change practitioners?
