    Hi all
I am going to buy a new laptop.
I am totally clueless so I hope someone can advise me.
    I would like a good reliable laptop with the following;
    - plenty of storage space for photographs, music etc.
    - plenty of storage for programs
(related to 2 points above - on my current laptop the c drive seems to be full and laptop running very slowly so don't want this problem on new one)
    - a port for sd cards etc. so I don't need usb lead to download photos from camera.
    - ability to watch dvd's so reasonably big screen
    - microsoft office suite
    - will generally use for the above and for internet, facebook etc.

Can anyone help? Thank you very much

how much (max) have you to spend?
What size screen would you like 14", 15" 17"?
    Windows or Mac OS?

I think the one I have is 12" at the moment so I suppose 14" would be fine....
Definitely microsoft, not apple, if that is your question! sorry, I'm clueless!!
In terms of budget - I haven't set one, not loaded or anything but i don't think what I'm looking for is anything special so shouldn't cost too much in comparison to other laptops?
    Thank you

don't worry about the storage space, get a 1TB/500g external hard drive to store things permantly, if your laptop goes thats probably everything wiped unless data recovery works out but its expensive, so yeah a good hard drive will be grand, I got a 300 g laptop and thats plenty of storage but you need a hard drive as well.

Any laptop will have a dvd drive and full screen option, if you watch dvds a lot you might want to invest in something with better graphics,

You will have to buy Office separately 1 pc its 120 euro 3 pcs is 160.

For general internet use and watching dvds you don't need a really high spec one but it sounds like graphics and resolution is important to you.

I would get a PC unless you've used macs before, I got a Sony Vaoi and regret it, I wouldnt spend 1000 on a laptop again I'd spend 500-600 as you'll probably be replacing it within five years and its only for surfing.

Now you can decide your price range, priortise weight or graphics and make it clear to anyone you're talking to about buying that you will be using it casually so they don't try and upsell you. Oh and if the laptop at the right price doesn't have a card slot (make sure it fits your card) you can get an external card reader cheaply so don't spend a few hundred extra on a better laptop that just happens to have a card reader, not worth it.

    Acer Aspire S250-0639 E-Series

    Average Price: $370

for graphics, next step up is 800 euro laptops or just settle for the average 400 euro laptop as you need a few extras.....
