You might be able to haggle a better deal if you say you already have the box. For a beginner I would not recommend trying to install the dish and cables yourself.

I would even go as far to say not to bother ever putting up a second hand dish. A new Sky type dish is only 20 or 30 euro and have a limited life.

If you are sure your going wth Sky (and not with a free Satellite and Saorview system) then just be aware of what you get on your Sky package, and of the one year contract.

If you are switching from UPC basic to Sky basic they you lose Discovery channel (you can discovery Shed but lineup is different)

You also lose multiroom without payment.

Remember you need to notify UPC first (I think 30 days notice) or they will charge you for an extra month. UPC will try haggle you for a better deal before they lose you.

So don't sign up to Sky until you have confirmed 100% you don't want a deal with UPC, and Sky can normally install in 2 weeks, so confirm you won't end up paying for 2 systems at the same time.

For Sky multiroom you need a real phone line, so this may be an issue for you.

You could keep it for the 2nd room, and put in your own cables after they put in the main box. Without a proper card you can only get the free channels but at least the menu is identical. You could also keep if for a spare, or sell it. If you decide to put a "Sky Eye"

on the other TV's in the house the remote alone is worth 10-15 Euro

I use it for freeview at the moment on my main tv with an av sender for the bedroom. Also have netflix
I just don't see any value in getting SKY installed at the moment

Sign up via fatcheese. You'll get €70 odd back for the basic package. Plenty of people complaining about fatcheese but they've always paid out for me and seeing as you're signing up anyway you might as well
