Just back from the Barrs Summer League. Some pace with feck all wind or rain thankfully! I stuck with the bunch this time as apposed to my first try a couple of years ago. Legs got a bit tired from moving up the bunch towards the the last few laps and had to push hard to keep with the group out of the corners.
Really enjoyed it, can imagine it will bring along fitness nicely doing this weekly over the summer. Big thanks to the marshals and organizers.

Anyone else here take part, how'd ye get on?

How long has that league been run at that location? The surface must be pretty poor down there, surely there must be other locations that would be suitable.

Surface is reasonable down there actually. Parts of it were resurfaced recently enough.

The league has been there for a good few years now. It usually moves down to Glounthaune when Live at the Marquee is on, due to traffic.

The city circuit is miles more fun though.

Yea the surface is ok. A few bone & bike shaking bits with the usual Council's crappy repair job. Only one big pothole of note and one of the organizers described it location to the group pre race.

I haven't done the Glounthaune race but saw a garmin file of it and the out and back route doesn't look as much fun as this circuit.

Was in there tonight again, really enjoyed it even tho I was chewing the handle bars to stay on, on a few occasions... Mainly after the corners! Need to start moving up through the group a bit better tho to take the pressure off myself!

Thought the surface was pretty dire to be fair on the road up to the roundabout...but after a few laps you know where to be wary!

I must say I'm nervously looking forward to it going to Glanmire in june, tough little hill in it!

Just curious, what's the standard like in these races? I've never raced before but am thinking of trying my hand at it over the summer if I can get enough time in on the bike. I'm in ok shape at the minute from my daily 12km round-trip commute to UCC but haven't been able to fit in many long spins in the last month or two what with a thesis and final exams hanging over me. Would a couple of weeks good training be enough to keep me from being dropped immediately?
