Not any that I've been with, but you're obliged to answer all questions truthfully and honestly otherwise they will have your a55 over it if you ever claim. Don't expect a good outcome if you state you work in a shop down the road when in fact you're a high mileage travelling salesperson.

No but they will run an indemnity check should anything ever arise. As such they work on the principal of utmost good faith. If you've fibbed and they find out you could end up in hot water.

Hi :-) been driving years & have had insurance with same company for 5yrs plus. Bumped another car from behind & to my horror realised I'd overlooked renewing my car insurance policy. I'm in a year old car myself, so I'm not in the habit of driving without cover, this was a genuine oversight on my part. So I'm not insured :-(
I'm also insured on a van in my name , you know how your insured 2 drive other cars on a 3rd party basis. can any1 tell me if I claim for the other guys damage on my van policy , or would that not apply as its another vehicle in my own name ? Any advise would be helpful as I'll need 2 inform the co I was involved in an accident either way ! Also if I have to fix up with the guy myself , will I loose my no claims bonus and do i need 2 inform the co if there isn't an actual claim paid by the insurance co ?

Usually, if not always, driving other cars extension is for cars you don't own. So most likely you will have to pay yourself for any damage. Not to mention risk of losing your license for few months, if guards are involved...
How long was the insurance out? Some insurers renew it without asking, and try to take DD from account on renewal date.
On side note it seems to be difficult to miss letter from them about that, unless you did not inform them of moving address, and that doesn't work well for you too.

It wont cover you since the car is in your name. If its out by a few days you could risk handing the other driver cash and a bit extra then go and get insured provided that they guards aren't already involved.

Yeah I did reakon it was only other vehicles that wernt in my name . Don't think your covered on another vehicle even in like a friends name that isn't insured in general. Looking back at my paperwork They sent me a renewal notice a month b4 the due date . I had dealt with the co around the same time insuring the van & house renewal & had discussed this policy whilst on phone. So in my head - had thought it was done. It was a genuine oversight on my part , I drive a yr old & have kids etc. I'm horrified 2 say it was a month out . I renewed my policy the next morn but didn't mention bump as reakoned I'd just have to fix up chap anyway. Do I still need to disclose accident as no point in me having a policy that isn't effective if I'm misfortunate enough 2 b in another accident.

I think other guy did ring it in2 the guards, can't b sure that he didn't ring my insurance co , when I renewed my insurance I didn't mention it as was thinking if theres no claim , do i need to . but thinking on it further - I feel now that I Should & maybe see what they say , as it will be hanging over me for next year .

If he has rang the guards already then what's done is done. I've heard of people getting points after notifying the guards themselves. If you already have 6 or more points I would say nothing because if they find out you will lose the licence whether you tell them or they find out indirectly.

Once the other driver gets sorted he will hopefully keep quiet.

Check your insurance cert, did they renew it from the renewal date or from the date you paid. I had a big discussion with insurance co last year. To stagger insurance payments I had put second car off the road for 6 weeks. When I insisted that I didn't want cover backdated, insurance were very careful, getting me to sign that there had been no incidents during those 6 weeks, . They insisted that they could still be held liable, if someone came forward claiming against me. Officially there are no days of grace on motor insurance, but in practise, if you have genuinely accidently forgotten to pay, rather than refused to pay/shopping around, you may have some grounds to claim providing the time period isnt excessive.

Technically maybe but if the guards catch on at a later date they will say that at the time of the accident you did not have insurance.

That's why NCT isn't backdated; just the expiry date is the same as the previous expiry date.

Tnks 4 your advise , I'm loosing so much sleep since this happened . When I say he rang guards , it was just 2 report the accident in general - he didn't know I wasn't covered at that stage , even i didnt know till next morn. I am paying 4 his expense & trying to work out a quick solution 4 the chap. There's no arguement there. I'm just soooooo worried now - that I'm technically still not covered as I didn't disclose the accident on renewing . I've no penalty points to date. As I said - I can't be sure he didn't ring the insurance co , even if they where to say the policy wasn't renewed - I'm sure it'll come back 2 haunt me 4 not disclosing it . Could they involve the guards in any way ???

They renewed it from the date I rang in & paid again ! But forms where diff than usual - with a lapse in cover very clear. That's why I feel they probs know - I just feel I need to come clean & say I didn't know I had 2 disclose as there wasn't a claim against them - I just don't know what will happen then

    That's all standard stuff.
If it was me I would say nothing! Whether you tell them or they catch you makes virtually no difference. Pay the other driver in cash ASAP and that's the end of it.

If the guards and insurance company find out you will get done for no insurance and the insurance company will hit you with a higher premium. Since its a first offence I would guess 6 points and 200 euro fine but it's hard to say.

That looks to be the safest legal path.

    +1

If you said you'll pay for the damage, and the other person was happy with that then why involve the insurance company. If there was no guards involved and you did not exchange insurance details, then keep them out of it .

I've been there , and it was an off duty guard that sorted it out on the spot, the other guy told me to get the car fixed and he'd pay, he did not want to involve the insurance company, the guard was happy with everything and that was that.

If the van is a commercial policy you can't drive any car on it.

Likewise you can't drive a commercial van with the 3rd party extension from a private motor policy.

For the original question, be aware that there may be more than one accurate and truthful description of your job on the list and that these may give different quotes.

What if a person changes jobs - does he need to notify the insurance company? Or if he goes unemployed etc?

Yes, legally you need to tell them if anything changes! I know of someone who had the police at his door because he moved out of his mother's house to another house in the same postcode and didn't tell insurance because he wanted all documents to go to his mother's.
